From Albatross to Champion: Katie Lu Secures First Professional Victory at NXXT Women’s Championship Finale

New Smyrna Beach, FL In a performance that defined both the championship and the season’s final stage, Katie Lu captured the NXXT Women’s Championship at Venetian Bay at 9-under-par 207, earning her first professional victory and closing the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour Winter Season in dominant fashion.

Lu’s week began with a moment rarely seen in professional golf — an albatross on the opening hole (Par 5) in Round 1 — immediately setting the tone for what would become one of the most complete performances of the season. She never gave the lead back.

A Complete, Wire-to-Wire Performance Following her opening-round 67, Lu maintained control through a steady second round before closing with a composed 3-under 69 to secure a six-shot victory.

Over 54 holes, Lu combined scoring power with consistency, finishing the week with 11 birdies and one eagle, while tying for the most par breakers in the field. She was also the only player in the championship to reach 9-under-par, separating herself from the field from the opening hole to the final round.

Ericsson Finishes Strong, Secures Player of the Year Title Sweden’s Sara Ericsson delivered another strong performance, finishing solo second at 3-under-par 213, highlighted by a second-round 69 and 12 birdies, tied for most in the field.

With her runner-up finish, Ericsson moved into the top position in the GolfJoy Player of the Year standings, securing the season-long title and earning the GolfJoy Spica 3 Launch Monitor, awarded to the top performer across the NXXT season.

Amateur Spotlight: Ballesteros Continues to Impress Amateur standout Daniela Ballesteros (Peru) continued her impressive form, finishing third at even-par 216 while competing against a full professional field.

Playing through the NXXTGen “Play Up with the Pros” pathway, Ballesteros remained in contention throughout the championship, reinforcing the strength of the developmental platform and its role in preparing players for elite competition.

Depth Across the Field

The final event of the season showcased the international depth of the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour.

Finland’s Krista Junkkari finished fourth at 3-over-par 219, while Karissa Kilby (USA) rounded out the top five at 4-over-par 220.

Multiple players produced under-par rounds throughout the week, but none matched Lu’s sustained control across all three rounds.

Precision Pro Low Round of the Week

The Precision Pro Low Round of the Week was awarded to Katie Lu for her opening-round 67, highlighted by the championship-defining albatross.

The award, presented at each NXXT event, recognizes the top single-round performance and includes a Precision Pro rangefinder.

A Breakthrough to Close the Season

Lu’s victory marks a breakthrough moment in her professional career — combining a historic opening shot with a dominant, wire-to-wire performance.

As the final event of the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour Winter Season, the championship delivered both a standout individual performance and a fitting conclusion to a competitive and internationally represented schedule.
